Forced migration: International solidarity against forced evictions and their reasons
SQUATTERS, TENANTS, HOMELESS organizing international solidarity AGAINST EVICTIONS AND REAL ESTATE VIOLENCE, housing rights violations, forced evictions, "slum" cleansing, gentrification/ghettoization of popular neighborhoods, SLUMLORDS, squats, informal settlements...
In North and South, East and West forced evictions are the most cruel form of housing rights violations. During the past years the number of people affected by forced evictions has increased to an alarming level. Especially in Africa and Asia. Besides giant mass evictions, for instance in Abuja (Nigeria), Harare (Zimbabwe), Karachi (Pakistan) and very many in India and China we should not forget everyday "incremental evictions" and mobbing in the USA, Canada, France, Spain, Germany. And we should not forget the criminalization of squats in Europe.
Many development and city renewal projects as well as authoritarian governance, war and conflict, slum cleansing, land speculation and the introduction of special trade zones directly or indirectly lead to forced evictions and other forms of real estate violence.
Evictions - from the country side as well as in cities - are even one reason for forced migrations, mainly inside the countries. Migrants at the same time are most vulnerable for evictions and housing rights violations, may it be in Africa, USA or in Spain, France and Germany.
Thus, the neo-liberal policies promoted by the G8 are one of the main structural reasons for these violations of a basic human right.
Another good reason to join the G8 protests and to discuss new forms of international solidarity action against evictions.
